For example, look at this word cloud -- do you see the word "taxes" anywhere?  It doesn't appear, even though this word cloud is a visual depiction of a speech that had a lot to do with taxes.  This speech would have been a good source for a student writing a paper about taxes in Oregon, but to find it with a keyword search, you would not find it using "taxes" as your keyword.

To find this speech, the researcher must predict what kind of language the author would be likely to use to talk about the topic -- in this case, the governor focused more on what the taxes would pay for, than on the taxes themselves.
